Bartlett family reunion was a huge success!  I think everyone was able to do what they wanted and the events went off without a hitch.  I want to thank Barbara Foster for her wonderful presentation on the family history, Donna and Stan for putting on this shindig and putting up with everyones crap, and everyone else for coming!  Please send me pictures or links to pictures or something useful!!!  I will try to post anything i can get from barbara as soon as i have time.  Yes, Barbara, i need to fill out the sheet.

For those of you who did not attend, we missed you and hope to see you at the next reunion.

For those of you still upset over recent events..  maybe by then we can see your smiling faces and those of your children.. no need to forget.. but it would be nice if everyone could forgive.  Its been a tough road for everyone, no need to keep traveling it.

Bartlett Family Renunion is in two weeks!  Remember we start on friday night, so please be there sometime friday for check-in and settle-in.  Please see the reunion page or Donna's emails for details.  Here is the basic info:

Thursday August 27th at Hickory Knob State Park

From Donna:
"LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!!!  We are pleased to announce that we currently have about 60 people confirmed for this year's reunion.  WOW!!!

Here is the latest and greatest information available:

We have reserved the Bordeaux Dining Room for Friday evening, Sunday morning and Sunday evening with the stipulation that we partake of their menu/buffets during those scheduled meal times to avoid room rental fees.  Please note that everyone will be responsible their own meals during the reunion.  We have reserved the Convention Center for the full day and evening on Saturday so that you can stay out of the heat and catch up, etc.  If anyone would like to plan some events for the younger ones, please feel free to utilize this space for that purpose as well.

Here's a glance at our tentative schedule of events:

Friday:  Check in.  Meet in the Bordeaux Dining Room between 4 and 9 pm for dinner and distribution of the T-shirts you ordered and your name badges.  Attempt to start the horseshoes tournament before dusk so that we can have the finals on Saturday after golf.

Saturday:  Golfers meet for breakfast - beginning @ 7 am then head to the course for their 1st tee time @ 8:20 or 8:30 depending on the response I receive from possible participants.  We currently have 4 tee times reserved and the tournament will be Captain's Choice.  Please see Stan Bartlett for your scheduled times and team assignments.  (336-337-0562)

Other Saturday Events:  Tennis, Volleyball, Horseshoes, Skeet Shooting Range (fee), Croquet - See Kathy Kukor.  Boat rentals are available at Savannah Lakes Marina - 864-391-3477 or Soap Creek Marina - 706-359-4100.  Kids pool games in between events and before dinner. Meet at the Convention Center for awards and possible talent show, if time permits.  Possible Cookout/Ice Cream Social - We will vote on this Friday at dinner.

Pass the baton to the next reunion organizer(s).

Sunday:  Meet for breakfast and say goodbye to those who are checking out due to school and work schedules.

No planned events for Sunday afternoon.  Suggestions:  Pontoon Rentals, (contact information listed above) more horseshoes.

We are very excited about the positive response we have received for this event.  Thank you all for your commitment to this event and this family.

All Our Love,
Stan and Donna Bartlett"

Donna has also rented a Grill on saturday for cook outs that will be located near the community center.  I would also extended an invitation from the kennedy family for a saturday dinner or lunch cookout.  We are going to bring some hotdogs and hamburgers as well as some condiments.  If you have something you like in particular, please bring it!

For anyone who noticed, the server has been up and down the past few weeks.  The old servers hard drive was dying.  I decided that rather than ghosting to a new hard drive and keeping the same box running, i would upgrade the hardware.  So as of today the new server is up and everything is working again.  We are now running on a Quad-Core 2.3Ghz with 4Gb of Ram, new intel board and SATA hard drives in a raid config(i was using ide).  The new server is definitely faster than the 2.4 Pent 3 with 1GB ram and ide drives!

I hope everyone is doing good in these harsh times.  This may is turning out to not be the best year for this, but i would like to remind everyone that we do have a reunion this year at Hickory Knob State Park in South Carolina.  Please make sure to check out the reunion page for all the details and updates.  Donna and Stan are running it this year.

Donna reminded me that we have a block of rooms, so make sure when you call to make reservations that you note that you are with the Bartlett Family Reunion, otherwise they will tell you they are booked(as i found out)!

Welp, it appears the service for Phillip Carlman ( my uncle ) was done on December 28th.  I hear it was short and sweet as Phil would have most likely preferred.  Phillip leaves behind his wife, Heidi Carlman and many great memories.  He will not be forgotten.

Although i would have loved to attend, i was not given the chance, i will assume all parties involved thought i was busy picking up my sister ( Wendie ) for her wurlwind tour of Florida.  I am glad she was able to make it to Ocala and enjoy time with everyone there!  The boys thoroughly loved it!

-------------------

The bartlett Reunion for 2009 is still on!  Please take a look at the reunion page for the details.  Now is the time to reserve your room and prepare for the fun.  Although it appears that all the cabins are rented, we would like to put together some money to ensure that anyone who doesnt have money for a room has a place to stay.  We want you there, so dont let a financial situation keep you from attending!  Let me know if you want to attend but need assistance!

Phil and Heidi Carlman

Well it is my sad duty to announce the tragic loss of Phillip Carlman who died of cancer December, 15th 2008.

This was a man, a stubborn man and gifted man, who fought cancer for many years.  He lived longer than any doctor could predict and he endured more than anyone should.

This was a man who loved model trains, building large scale sets and letting those young wild eyed kids play with his hard work.  A man who let two misguided youth spend an entire summer with him while at the same time taking over his house.  A man who spent years heavily devoted to family and friends.

He will be sorely missed.. but he will not be forgoten!  We will live on carrying the memories he help create and cherish those moments forever.

A memorial service date has not been chosen yet.  As soon as i know, i will post about it.  I am sure an email will be circulating too.

Reunion 2009

It has come to my attenion that Stan and Donna Bartlett are planning on holding a reunion in 2009 at Hickory Knob.  The details are not final, so i will not post them.  Please check out our reunion page for more information.  They should be updating it in the coming weeks.

Well i hope everyone had a most wonderful thnanksgiving.  I spent mine with the King family.  I would once again like to thank them for their hospitality and grub!

At last i heard, Phil Carlman was still in the hospital ICU ward.  Phil is currently fighting cancer and the effects of the treatment.  I had hoped to see him around the table, but it was nice to have heidi around to fill us in on the details since we cannot visit the ICU ward.  We all wish him the best and hope he gets better soon.

I hope everyone is fairing well in this economy.  I fear it will not hit rock bottom for some time.  Hopefully everyone has their rainy day fund ready for the worst.

Regards,

Brent

Good news!  It seems the long term disagreement between a few in the family has ended!

I hope everyone can file this experience away and move forward.

On a more solem note, Phil Carlman is still battling cancer.  He recently sent me a picture, i would say he looks good, but he is quite bald!  I sincerely hope he beats this aweful disease, we need him around as long as possible!

Other stuff:

Now, i believe its time for a family reunion!  Anyone game?

If anyone wants the family tree maker software and tree, please let me know.

New year, life goes on.  I have been busy the last few months being a slave to a cause i thought the country would get behind.  Well they got behind the cause, but not behind the man i supported for that cause, but i do support the cause, so this other man has my allegiance.

Anyhow, now that that’s that, i hope the two carlman camps can finish whatever it is they are doing and a reunion can be planned.

Lets look forward to a good year, one filled with love and prosperity.  Lets hope the looming recession gives us a cursory blow and the American public remains aloof.

I recently sent out an email to everyone on the email list.. apparently there were a few that no longer existed, so have now updated the email list.

Sadness and loss are apart of life, if you make them your life, you will never be able to enjoy life.

I hope all matters are resolved this year.. i dont think anyone involved has walked away without an emotional scar.  But the scar should remain just that, a reminder of the past.  You may never forget what happened, but the hope is there that we as a family can move forward as a whole family.

Yay.. server is back up!!

In the meantime.. i have been updating my media centers to vista.. SWEET!  Plus updating my online movie collection, see that here http://c.mymovies.name/icetoad

I still have a whole lotta movies offline(DVDs), see them here: http://icetoad.dvdaf.com/owned

For those of you interested in building a media center, here is an easy guide:

Buy a computer with windows vista home premium or ultimate on it, make sure it had HDMI or DVI out, and a very large hard drive.  You do need a High Definition TV for this though, usually have HDMI(looks like a usb plug) or DVI(white with lots of pin holes) ports available.

Download AnyDVD(pay)

Download MyMovies(Free)

Download Codecs(Free) Look for the vista pack or xp pack if you have XP

Download or install a DVD Decoder, usually comes with the PC or DVD drive you buy.  If you cant play dvds and dont have a decoder, email me i can help you out. Or buy one

Buy a cheap HDMI or DVI cable if you dont have one, you dont need to buy expensive cables.. HDTV either works or doesnt.. so there is no signal degredation like old analog cables. Newegg has cheap ones!

Install all the software above, donate to mymovies($10 bucks atleast), then either use AnyDVD to rip the movies to the hard drive or just inventory them one by one using a scanner and the mymovies collection management tools.  For those who really want to make it easy, buy a cheap $15 USB barcode scanner off ebay( they have some called cuecat which are really cheap ).

Just keep in mind that ripping them to your hard drive will fill it up within 50 movies, so only put the ones on there that watch alot.  This brings up a good point.. this is an excellent tool to keep the kids dvds in one place and prevent them from damage!

BTW: You can setup mutliple media centers and have them share between the computers, but you need a home network setup( not wireless ).

If you want to get one from me, i can build one for $500(software and all), set it up for your and ship it to your house(or business).  I could even throw some movies on there that you already have to save you time.. wink wink nudge nudge.

Or you could send me a PC you bought that has the specifications above and i could set it up as media center.

I currently have a media server setup in my house with three media centers for my viewing pleasure.. but all you really need is one.

Oh.. another BTW: If you want to maximize how many dvds you can fit on your HD, i would suggest compressing them down to just the movie in AVI format.  But thats another tutorial.

I fixed the family tree, IIS6 has some security features that IIS5 didnt have.  Anyhow, it can now process jar files and thus the tree is working.  I also converted the most recent file so it was viewable through the tree browser.

As i was playing around with the tree i noticed some missing data.  I you notice any missing data, please use the contact form to let me know.. i will need birth/death/fullname/or event type with all the details you can provide.  For instance, a marriage, i need the date, both the bride and grooms name(and maiden name for bride), the place of marriage, etc.

Just incase anyone has not recieved the email, the family reunion for 2006 has been canceled and possibly moved to 2007.

----- Stupidity Below -----

Note to the calendar spammer: i do get notices when people post calendar events, due to your activity, i have enabled the approval process for all event submissions.

Personal Note: Its rather sad that i cant even allow family members to post events without my approval any more.. first the free webmail signup was abused by a nigerian spammer, now this... some people have no respect for anything.

Today marks the passing of a great woman.  Beverly Coit Carlman, 78 years old, passed away today.  She leaves behind a sad but wholesome family who will miss her dearly.  She will be remembered not only as a mother, grandmother, sister or friend but as someone who lived her life loving everyone and eveything thing she and her family could fill it with.

We will miss her and we hope she has a happy birthday reunion with her husband(Phillip Carlman, Sr.)

We would also like to thank the staff at the hospice for their support thorought this entire experience, they not only eased her pain, they eased ours as well.

For any who are interested, there will be a memorial service for Beverly on January 7th 2006.  I did not get the church name, but i believe it will be at her church.  Things were pretty hectic today, but i will get that information and update this posting with it.

We all hope that everyone has a safe and peaceful holiday.

I have some sad news to report; Beverly Carlman was hospitalized after a fall in the nursing home.  The fall caused her anerysm clot to start bleeding.  On top of that, they also found lung cancer again during the review of the x-rays.  After a short stay at the hospital, Beverly was moved to hospice care where she will remain until she passes on.

The hospice is located outside of ocala.  I do not have directions, but would be glad to get that information if you email me at bkennedy@bartlettfamily.com .

I hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday.

Family News:

Phil is undergoing chemotherapy, i hear he is doing well.  All the best!

The Thomas's had a miscarriage, I just heard and our hearts go out to them both.

Other News:

I found a great website that allows you to keep your whole dvd collection online in a database that you can access anywhere.  It also allows you to create a wishlist of movies as well as file them however you want.  The website is called: DVD Afictionado, you can get to it at: www.dvdaficionado.com

So come on down and make sure to bring food with you, otherwise your stuck with whatever everyone else brings!  Make sure to bring chocolate, kidding, no not really.

Well its been one heck of a summer for all of us, but i am glad everyone made it thru! I just recieved notification from my mother that there is a wedding coming up! Scott and Julie are about to become one family! Yes another wonderful addition to the long list of them. Please make sure to check your mail box for invitations! Also, the holidays are coming up. Please keep stopping by once a week or so to make sure you are up - to - date on everything that is going on. One more note: I am rebuilding this website with a new design theme! This design took me about a week to get in motion, but i do have the template ready and have been working on the pages themselves. Hopefully i will have it up by the end of this week! This new theme was created to test the limitations of my newly discovered web design methods, hopefully everyone will like it.

Well hope everyone in florida survived all the storms! I faired well when charlie came thru with no damage. Frances however removed some of the soffit from the right side of my house! About five feet or so. I havent heard any other damage reports from other family members, so i will assume everyone else faired better. Because of frances, i removed the server from its location and brought it to north carolina with me. While there i played with some stuff and backed up the server to dvd. I also added some new image galleries with a script i created two weeks ago. I think everyone will like it and it will definitely speed up the process of getting images to the web. Because of this script i would like to invit EVERYONE to send me ANY sets of photos you have. Just zip them all up into a zip file and send them in an email to me at bkennedy@bartlettfamily.com. In the email specify what the gallery is and when it was taken.

Just made it back from Las vegas this weekend and thought i would work on the gift list. I went ahead and created a temporary list site, but it doesnt have near the features i want, so .. consider it temporary, but do use it! I think this system is great because it gives you ideas on what others want and reduces the chance that the gift you give them isnt really a hit! Granted gift giving is completely optional, but if you want to give to others, espeically those who you have no idea what to buy, this system is great to reducing that stress not to mention help you speed up your shopping time. I like shopping, but i dont like to spend hours on end trying to figure out what to get everyone. I guess you could say this takes the guess work out of gift giving. This was put on hopefully to help everyone this christmas, course i dont know how we are going to do it this year yet. I will let you know.. Keep checking back.

Hello everyone, i guess no news is good news! I sure hope hurricane irene(i think thats how you spell it) steers clear of the carolinas and maybe even heads off into the sea. Being the size of florida and a category 3, i can only imagine the damage it would do. I think hurricane Fran(1998) was a weak category 3 at landfall and because of its speed made it all the way inland to raleigh before ending up as a category 1. That one did alot of damage, can you imagine if a category 3 or even a weak 4 hit the carolina´s... not good! Website Update: Just fixed the music link and some DNS entries on the backup DNS server. Please use the feedback page if you want access and remember, you should probably have a high speed connection before even considering trying it out. Also fixed the email page footer picture.. something got messed up when i added the copy box and it showed up off the page.

The email list can now be easily copied to your email client! Check out the email list page for more info on how to transfer that list to your client. This will come in handy if you need to email everyone and dont have the list and as everyone adds their email.. just recopy it everytime you need to send an email and you will have the most updated list.. no need to maintain your own! Changed some admin stuff.. that i am sure no one will notice :) Like i said last night.. opacity and size of menus have changed.. so everyone can see now and hopefully i have appeased everyone!

Just finished a day of major editing! Added an admin and user login section along with all the stuff that goes with that. Mainly for me, but the user section will be great for reunion updates! Changed the layout around a little on a few pages, updated some hyperlinks and enabled all the reunion links. The reunion information page is up and ready to go, so when i get in touch with kathy again, she will be able to edit that whenever she has updates! or i can do it if need be. Oh, i also changed the opacity of the menus so they are no longer see thru, i got some complaints about that and i know if the young ones are complaining.. then the older ones must be screaming. Also changed the size of the menus to allow for more space to move the mouse around. Hope everyone is happier now! :)

Just got word from Kathy that, by over whelming demand, July 4th is the chosen date for the 2004 reunion! That means the reunion 2004 pages will soon be working.. so please check back! I will also keep a link under highlights. Just a side note.. I am still working very hard on this website to bring it to finality and also doing some other stuff that will affect it behind the scenes. if something stops works(like the menus I somehow disabled), please check back soon and definitely send me an email via the feedback form!

The Bartlett Family domain(bartlettfamiy.com) is now under my complete control! This enables me to have email, custom webpages like music.bartlettfamily.com, and change anything whenever i need to! You say: "what does this do for me?" Answer: "allows me to update bfam content faster!" Besides that, i am also working on an administrative interface so that i can update the entire site on the road without any special software. Yes this is mainly for me, but i will eventually expand this so that specific users, like whoever is doing the reunion, could change content on the fly whereever they are without any software, just a web browser! ahh the possibilities!

Anyhow, you can access them thru the family menu at the top under events. oh and i learned something new! no & signs in pictures.. very bad things happen. Also, i didnt mention on my last posting that the other reason we got a new server is that the old one was limping along just waiting to die. By this i mean, the power supply fan and the backup fan were both not working and the server was about 1 degree short of overheating. Luckily enough for us.. it kept running until i could switch it out!

Ok, now that i have the site fully functional again. See i just moved all my websites to new server and the permissions, as always with frontpage extensions, get messed up and nothing works. It takes a little TLC to get the site back up and running again.. so that is why, if you have visited in the last few ours, you have seen it working and then not working. ---Begin Geek--- The new server is a 1.2Ghz althon with 512 PC133 RAM, Two fourty gig ATA166 drives with 8meg caches running at 7200RPM's ARG ARG! ---End Geek--- What does this mean for me you say? Well it means: -More secure website -Faster page processing on the server -More space to put stuff, like pictures! Speaking of pictures, i do have the new baby boy pictures here and i will be working on that just as soon as i fix one more thing. About 20 minutes? soo 7pm Est.

In case you haven't noticed, I am going for a more interactive experience. This "experience" will include: -website link database -Interactive Trivia -Email database -Address Database -Picture uploads -Recipe Database -More stylish/interactive photo galleries -and More!! Each database will allow for input from family members that will be immediately available to all family members without my interaction. In other words, you type it in, it appears on the webpage after you refresh.
